OUR RATING 80/100
Osyron, from Calgary, Canada, are ready to unleash “Foundations” , out on July 10th, 2020 via SAOL/The Orchard.
According to the band “Foundations” is meant to be digested as an immersive exploration of Canadian history and identity, speaking on topics on the country's colonization to the mistreatment and recognition of Aboriginals to the country's participation in global warfare.
Although it isn’t a concept, it does bear a consistent theme across nearly the entirety of the record.
The band notes that this is the first album where each band member has contributed to the songwriting which has resulted in a stronger, more refined production overall.
In this 5-songs work, the first shot is THE CROSS which, after an instrumental intro, shows dark atmospheres and strong riffing.
Lilting and growin’ second after second, provides in the second slice drops of melody with a contemporary and powerful production.
In IGNITE we can appreciate dynamic drums, clear production and vocals, all enhanced by progressive hints.
A compelling tune is BATTLE OF THE THAMES, which starts acoustically and with a right dose of expressivity, while following THE ONES BELOW, provides more musicality.
FOUNDATIONS is the last shot, with a fancy texture, is the song that ends in the best way this great Ep.
A band to keep an eye on!
