Dealer, #nwobhm cult band, have been roaring their music since they first took to the stage in 1979.
Today’s we have the chance to chat with their band manager Chris Gentil.
💿 Hi, it’s a pleasure for us to have on Hardrockheavymetal CHRIS GENTIL, band manager of NWOBHM legends DEALER!!
Hi Gio, it's a honour for DEALER to be here with you on HRHM.
💿 Can you introduce us the current line-up of the band?
The current line up is:
Trevor Short, since 1979 - lead vocals & rhythm guitar, Rupert Irving, since 2009 - drums & backing vocals,
Tom Bull, since 2014- bass guitar & backing vocals and Ashley Doulton, since 2016 - lead guitar & backing vocals.
💿 A few days ago was out your new four-songs EP, IN THE NAME OF GOD?, well-received on our pages. Can you tell us somethin’ about its composition process and style and what’s the matter of this title?
The new EP came about because the guys were desperate to get together and play some music.
“Let's record, over zoom, some of the less well known songs, we've got the time and knowledge of how it should be done " said Trevor.
All the guys agreed, so here we are, and with the typical DEALER style we put out a quality product and T-Shirt to match it.
The title track itself is just a general comment on the way, from an ordinary guys opinion, that religion is used as an excuse for despots and dictatorships to keep the general population from being free and having a life.
💿 In your early days as musicians which artist influenced you the most?
In the early days Trevor's songwriting (he was and still is the main songwriter) was influenced by many bands including Judas Priest, Diamond Head, AC/DC and latterly Metallica.
The other guys are younger and they're more influenced by bands like Pantera, Megadeth and Zakk Wilde. Those added influences compliment Trevor's writing with their input of modern metal rhythms and style.
💿 FIRST STRIKE is your amazing first full-lenght; AIs it possible a vinyl reissue? Honestly I have my original copy but it’s not easy to find for many fans..
Thanks for the nice comment about "First Strike" mate. We would love to be able to re-release FS but we don't own it anymore, the government does, after Ebony Records went into liquidation the government took everything that Ebony owned.
The only way we could release it now, is if we re-record it with the current line up and call it something else. Watch this space!!
💿 How is difficult promote a new work throughout this never-ending covid madness?
At the moment, with no gigs allowed, it's very difficult to get the word across.
We do our best with internet platforms and huge thanks goes to guys like you, but a live gig is the best way to promote the band.
💿 Here at Hardrockheavymetal we’re strong defender of classic format. Love for vintage or isn’t there a future outside digital?
DEALER is a classic/NWOBHM rock band, but we also like many modern bands and that helps keep our music fresh and classic at the same time.
This combination of styles has served us well in the past 10 years as can be heard on the new EP.
With the resurgence in vinyl sales not all future sales will be digital.
We have 2 full length vinyl albums available.
💿 In absence of live music many bands provide streaming concerts. You agree or disagree? What’s your opinion about?
Streaming works for some but not all. It's not something that we can do at the moment due to logistics and Covid restrictions.
💿 You shared stages with many artists and bands. Who’s the craziest?
That's an easy one (no disrespect to the many great bands that we've been fortunate to share a stage with), we supported Motörhead on the "Another Perfect Day" tour back in the mid eighties.
Those guys know how to party, they are crazy legends, especially Lemmy.
He was so nice to us, sharing their enormous rider with us, giving us advice and just generally being a superb host.
We looked up to him with reverence and took on board everything he said.
Trevor and I look back at that time with great memories.
💿 Ready to return on stage in the last part of this year? What’s your opinion about?
Returning to the stage at the end of this year would be amazing. We hope this will be possible. We'll just have to wait and see.
Getting across to Europe looks like it's going to be challenging after the stupid decision to leave the EU.
💿 Thanks you so much for your time! See you soon on Hardrockheavymetal, hoping to see you also on stage as soon as possible
Many thanks Gio. It was a pleasure. We would love to come to Italy and play for you, so if you know any promoters who would like to get involved, give them my contact details.
Thank you for your continued support.
