Oh UT Sept 25th, 2020
OUR RATING 84/100
Upon the 2019 formation of Blazon Rite, guitarist James Kirn had quite the simple, but universal edict: He wanted “heads to bang.”
Kirn wanted to put his twist on the genre by combining his love of obscure ’70s hard rock and power metal while exploring the vast fantasy world of Dungeons and Dragons. In few months, Blazon Rite had recorded four songs of their debut four-song EP, Dulce Bellum Inexpertis, out on Sept 25th, via Gates of Hell Records.
THE WARRIOR CHOICE (TAKE ME AWAY) is the first shot with a long intro, epic and full of emphasis, but also squared and enhanced by grandiloquent vocals.
After a central break rhythm grows, bass roars and drums hit us, before guitar exploding in a gorgeous solo; the last slice of the song is pressing before another change of time.
DIAMOND DAGGYR, after a fancy arpeggio, provides a fancy classic HM sound, enhanced by dynamic drums.
But also here we can find changes of time, which provides different solutions.
In INTO THE EXPANSE rhythms are more lilting, before growing second after second in an epic crescendo.
UDUG HUL is the last ace, which starts with a fancy arpeggio by acoustic guitars, but vocals and changes of time, a trademark of this band, are again added values.
