BAND Orthanc - Belgium ALBUM CARNIVAL LABEL SELF RELEASE OUT 9/10/2019 OUR RATING 75/100 After a few years of musical experiments in various bands, brothers Geert (drums) & Marnick Serreyn (guitar) with Matthias Vanden Berghe (bass) and Ortwin Lietaert (vocals) started looking for a second guitar-player. Mid 1993 a second guitarist Chris Borny (ex Erode to Greed) joined the ranks. The style of music evolved into solid Metal with the necessary tempo changes. A first demo called “The Book” was recorded in 1993. By the end of 1994 a second demo with 5 tracks was unleashed. ORTHANC started opening up shows for several bands and they also got selected gigs as special guest to open up for the Belgian show of the European tour of Canadian Metal Gods Annihilator but in 1997 the band split up. The band members stayed active musically, in bands like The Colony, Rafflesia, Healer, Patriarch, Mörehead.
In October of 2014 we were asked to do a one-off reunion concert with a number of guest musicians, followed by many gigs such as Cocqrock (july 2015), DelRockfest IV (nov 2015), Elpee Deinze (nov 2015), B52’s (jan 2016), Zandrock (june 2016). Since early 2018 they have been working hard composing and arranging the songs to get them ready to record. A selection of these tracks are now gathered on 2019’s cd ‘CARNIVAL’ recorded and mixed at Reddrum Studios by David Ooms out today. The album is various; sharp riffs, a power groove that reminds the glory days of genre, but also a sweet arpeggio to open VICTIM OF CHEMICAL SUBSTANCE before restarting more cutting than ever. More rockin at times KNOCK 'EM DOWN while USELESS sees strong riffs alternating with more thoughtful moments. (DO UNTO) OTHERS is a strong song closer to thrash at times, really various and finally with a great solo. THE PROPHET is the last great shot to end in the best way this great platter. SURELY INTERESTING! #pressagent Hardlife Promotion
