BAND RED DRAGON CARTEL
LABEL FRONTIERS MUSIC SRL
OUT Nov 9th, 2018
OUR RATING 80/100
After a long hiatus, four years ago, the replacement of RANDY ROADS in OZZY OSBOURNE's solo band, JAKE E. LEE, is back with a new project called RED DRAGON CARTEL.
The debult album showed a contemporary hard rock, surely not son of BADLANDS or BARK AT THE MOON times.
For a few days is out the second chapter of this project, always out via FRONTIERS MUSIC, called PATINA.
The line-up consists of Anthony Esposito (ex-Lynch Mob) on bass guitar, Phil Varone (ex-Saigon Kick and Skid Row) on drums and Darren James Smith (Harem Scarem) on vocals.
The first news is the sound that shows some contemporary drops but it' s clear that the global mood of this album is closer to the rooots of JAKE.
You can find it in "Havana"or in "Crooked Man", surely influenced by classic and bluesy hard rock of BADLANDS. "Chasing Ghosts" is another right classic shot, with Zeppelin' drops, while "A Painted Heart", that starts with a great arpeggio, is surely one of our personal favs.
"Speedbag" , instead, is a great mix of "modern and old" in the way of what we've seen in the first album.
PATINA is a strong album, not commercial, with great parts; it' s a pity listening to it with a production not on the same level of standing of songs.
