💿 Hi,it’s a pleasure for us to have on Hardrockheavymetal GEORGE LOHAN of SCARS OF ARMAGEDDON, the well-known Heavy Metal band from Chicago! Let’s start talking about the early days of the band..When is this all begun? Which bands have influenced you?

GL: Thanks guys, it’s a pleasure to be talking to you as well. I'll start at my influences I guess since that leads up to why were here. Growing up my mom was a big Journey and Garth Brooks fan. I would steal her cassettes when I could, I even stole a Prince CD or 2 from her, and she never got those back. My biggest influences now though would be Iron Maiden, Iced Earth, Helloween, Coheed and Cambria, and Dream Theater. After my last band split, I put out an ad on craigslist looking for musicians in 2011. I found our drummer and original guitar player that way. Dave was a recommendation by some mutual friends, and Pauly came a couple years later as he had been in a band with Jason years ago.

💿 On December 15th will be out your new full-length, called “DEAD END”. Can you tell us somethin’about this platter and its composition process? We had the privilege to listening to it in preview and we’re very satisfied!

GL: Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. The composition process for this one was all over the place. A couple of the songs were actually already written back when we recorded our first record Never Sleep Again. I chose the songs that showed up on that record because I felt they showed the full array of what the band is. It was a good overview if you will.

This album is just the natural progression of all of the stuff we were writing, along with Pauly and Dave contributing more and more. Pauly wasn't with the band when we recorded the first album so its great to really have his stamp on these songs.

Most of the songs are composed the same way now. Someone will have a skeleton of a song, or a riff or 2, we'll play it for each other and it usually sparks something. It's pretty cool, most of the material just organically appears. There is still a thought process with themes and structures, but each song dictates how it goes.

💿 In our opinion you’re style is deeply own and hardly classifiable in one or in the other class. Do you agree?

GL: Yeah, I would say that’s pretty fair. I'm not into the whole genre classification thing. It gets kind of ridiculous and pigeonholes you into a certain thing. That was something I was pretty adamant about when I started the band. The backbone of the band will always be Power Metal, but everyone has different backgrounds musically in the band, and there's instances where thrash, death, even some prog elements come through. I don't like restrictions on what we can or can't do cause someone could say its not Power Metal. I just want to write the best possible music we can.

💿 The album will be released via PURE LEGEND RECORDS, a brand of PURE STEEL GROUP. Can you tell us somethin’about the relationships with them?

GL: Yeah, everyone at Pure Steel that we've dealt with have been great. Michaela and Markus have been great guiding us through the entire process. They're 7 hours ahead of us here so they're always great about getting back to us quickly when we have questions and have made the whole process painless.

💿 The real “news” in music industry is the return of vinyl; What’s your feeling about this classic format and the current music business?

GL: The current music business is what it is. A lot of the problem really is the oversaturation of the market. There's so many great bands coming out with incredible records that it gets expensive to buy everything, which I get. That's why streaming services are so appealing to many. I think that return of vinyl is absolutely fantastic. Anything that gets people interested in buying physical media and not just streaming it, whether they want it for bigger artwork, great package design, or the actual audio quality of vinyl is amazing.

💿 Can you tell us somethin’about your next live projects to promote the new album? Are there some gigs scheduled?

GL: The Metal Shop is throwing a listening party coming up January 2nd 2018 at Delilahs in Chicago from 9pm-2am hosted by Nick Fury. We also have our official album release show which will be at Penny Road Pub in Barrington Saturday February 3rd, 2018. 💿 Thank you so much for your time! See you soon on Hardrockheavymetal!

GL: Thanks for having me!
