OUR RATING 83/100
35 years after the debut album and nearly 20 after Volume I, finally Pagan Altar, one of the more loved underground NWOBHM names, had published "The Room of Shadows".
It arrives 11 years after "Mythical and Magical" via Temple of Mystery Records.
The line up It's composed by singer Terry Jones (sadly passed away in 2015) and son/guitarist Alan Jones (they are in the band from 1978 through 1985 before coming back in 2004 to offer up second album, Lords of Hypocrisy and the EP of earlier recordings, The Time Lord, before revisiting Volume I in 2005’s Judgement of the Dead, and Mythical and Magical), the bass player Diccon Harper (interviewed in previous months by Hardrockheavymetal), and drummer Andy Green.
They went back into the studio and re-recorded the instruments behind his lost member's vocals, and the result is this seven-song/46-minute "The Room of Shadows".

From “Rising of the Dead” through "Portrait of Dorian Gray,” the horror rock of “Danse Macabre,” to “Dance of the Vampires,” the proto-metal thrust of the title-track, the over 10 min duration of "The Ripper” and its epilogue “After Forever”, The Room of Shadows unfolds an high class work of classic Uk underground Heavy Metal.
An album to suggest.
