ARGUS - KEVIN LATCHAW

💿 Hi, it’s a pleasure for us to have on Hardrockheavymetal KEVIN LATCHAW, drummer of ARGUS well known band from PITTSBURGH! Let’s start talking about the early days of the band..When is this all begun? Which bands have influenced you?

Erik Johnson, Mike Wisniewski, and I started Argus in early 2005 I think. It all started with the band name, a few riffs, and some gin. The three of us had played together for awhile in various bands, and we decided to give it another go. We later enlisted Jason Mucio and Andy Ramage, and Butch came on board in 2006. As far as influences, personally I’m into a lot of classic rock and metal - anything from Led Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy, and the Beatles to Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, and early Metallica. Those seem to be the common threads across all the other guys as well.

💿 On September 8th will be out your new full-length FROM FIELDS OF FIRE We were really goin’mad listening to this work and reviewing it..Can you tell us somethin’about this platter and its composition process?

I’m glad you like it! Jason and I wrote a couple of the new songs while Andy and Erik were still in the band back in 2014. One of them is on the album (“216”) and the other was recorded but didn’t make the cut. When Dave and Justin joined, they breathed some new life into the band - Dave was writing like crazy, so he kept us moving. This record was written a little differently than we had in the past, mainly due to our work and family schedules. It was a lot tougher to get us all in the same room together, but we made it work. Jason and Dave really worked hard to push the guitars to a new level for Argus. We always want to push our boundaries a bit while still sounding like us, and I think we did that. We took our time to make sure we were happy with the songs, and I’m proud of how they came out. You never know how having new members will affect the writing process and chemistry, but we hit the ground running. We had known Dave and Justin for years, so that helped. They brought a lot to the table and I love what they’ve added to the band.

💿 The album will be out on CRUZ DEL SUR MUSIC. Can you tell us somethin’about the relationships with this italian label?

Enrico has treated us great since day one. He has always had a solid roster of bands, and we were honored to be on board for “Boldly.” It’s a perfect fit for our band. We’re glad to still be working with him all these years later.

💿 The real “news” in music industry is the return of vinyl; What’s your feeling about this classic format and the current music business?

I love vinyl. It takes me back to listening to my parents’ records when I was a kid. I think we have maybe lost touch with the process of listening to albums - opening it, looking at (studying) the art, reading the lyrics, playing the album in the order the band intended - all things that are lost with digital formats. I refurbished my grandfather’s old turntable and love sitting around listening to records with my dogs. As far as Argus goes, it’s a good seller - we generally sell out of it. I hope it sticks around.

💿 Can you tell us somethin’ about your next projects, both live and studio? Are you ready to put the stages on fire with HIGH SPIRITS, another NWOTHM prodigy?

Live we have a few gigs coming up locally opening for sHeavy, then we head to Europe with our friends, High Spirits. We couldn’t be more excited to tour with those guys. We’ve known them for a few years now, and they always put on a great show. Plus they’re great people. When Chris mentioned it to us around November last year, we knew we had to make it work so that we could go. Studio wise, we don’t have anything planned, but I’m hoping to keep this momentum going and get writing soon. We’ve already tossed some ideas around, so we’ll see where that goes. We’re hoping to maybe record an EP or two as well with some covers - we’ll see.

💿 Thank you so much for your time! See you soon on HARDROCKHEAVYMETAL!

Thanks for the questions, Giovanni!

Cheers! Kevin (Thanks Clawhammer PR)
