💿 Hi, It’s a pleasure for us to have on Hardrockheavymetal JEFF BADDLEY, drummer of TROYEN, another great band born in NWOBHM movement! We really appreciate you wanting to hear from us and spreading the Troyen word. 💿 Jeff, Can you tell us somethin’about the early times of the band and, next, about reunion? We were originally called Trojan until we realized there was another band in the UK with the same name, so we decided to called ourselves Troyen which is French for Trojan and is inspired by 1858 Hector Berlioz opera Les Troyens. It was really hard in pre internet days to get noticed it was down to hard work and gigging as often as possible. We did over 130 gigs in the two years we were together including support dates with Spider, Girlschool, Rhabstallion, and Diamond Head amongst others. We also enjoyed a six week European support tour with Nightwing. Our demo album of the same year was Gil Norton’s first ever studio job. At the time, Gil was just learning how to record, engineer and produce music. Gil’s current portfolio consists of work for the likes of The Pixies, Foo Fighters, Feeder, Counting Crows, Terrorvision and many more of the same calibre. The album sold out of two runs of 250 and Troyen enjoyed good radio play across the UK. Regarding the reunion I was contacted via Facebook by the organizers of Brofest - UK asking if I was the “Jeff Baddley” from Troyen and if I was could he put the band back together to appear at The Brofest#3 Festival as people had requested our appearance. I was still friends with Steve, playing in a covers band with him and via the power of the internet tracked down the other two original members Nick and Dave. The idea was to do the Brofest gig as a one off release a CD which we entitled “Finish What You Started” but such was the reception as Brofest that we decided we had to carry this on. As activities within the newly re-formed band began to pick up pace, Dave decided that he sadly didn't have the time to devote to the band’s quickly filling diary and very reluctantly left the band to be replaced for a short time by Karl Altdorfer. Upon Karl’s departure; the post was undertaken by current bassist Andy Stephenson. We have since played gigs and festivals all over the UK and Europe including Heavy Metal Maniacs in Holland. 💿 What do you think about the renewed interest for NWOBHM and traditional hard’n’heavy? The genre New Wave of British Heavy Metal is a very broad spectrum with bands like early Def Leppard at one end and Motorhead at the other. We were just a rock band playing our own stuff in the early 80’s and were put in the NWOBHM genre. It’s great that there is a resurgence and we will play for as long as there are people who want to listen. 💿 On July 17th will be out your new EP with 3 new tracks and 2 re recorded classic tracks (the cover is very cool). Is it an appetizer waitin’ the main dish (a full length)? Yes hopefully we will have a new full album out in 2018 💿 Can you tell us somethin’ about the next gigs? We have gigs in summer and autumn in UK and Europe including a The Drunken Monkey Festival with Grim Reaper and a festival in The North west of the UK to raise money for Steve Grimmett. We are also appearing at the British Steel Festival in France in October. We have plans for festivals in UK and Europe for 2018 too, details will be released in the summer. 💿 Thank you so much for your time! See you soon on HARDROCKHEAVYMETAL! Our Pleasure Giovanni. Hope to meet you one day!
